Photo a day - Day 1

Todays photo topic is "your view today".....

So this is the view from my work carpark....a beautiful converted church. Note: NOT a currently practicing church (or I would have been struck down upon entering!!)

Picture taken on my iphone 4....

The slack blogger returns!

I know - I must be the slackest blogger out!

But seriously, aside from climbing My Lofty and work and home, I don't really DO a lot. And if I was to sit here and share my thoughts, well, that would be quite boring!! Plus thats what Facebook and Twitter are for right??

But I saw on someone elses blog a great way to reconnect with my blog - February Photo a Day!! A list of 29 photo topics to share. Plus the added bonus of being able to share on Twitter too! I'm really trying to embrace the wonders of  social media/elecronic wizardry/the world we live in, so anything that will assist is greatly appreciated!!

So, I hereby declare that there will be a Photo a Day blog post for the next 29 days!!

Warning: virtolic rant to commence

Following on from my last post about clothes, I was outside in my new shorts and a new top, looking fine, when I  took a moment to take stock of the body underneath.

I noted the more muscular legs, the firmness of skin, the toning beginning to show in the arms, and just how much....better I moved around.

And then it occurred to me that I have worked hard to get to this point, damn hard and that I was proud of myself. And then I thought what my dad would say. I can hear his voice in my head, not compliment me on how I was looking, but the other positives he would have noted; I'm happier, more purposeful, more self assured and more confident I am about myself. The compliment about how I was looking would follow soon after.

But because the other voice I hear in my head is my mothers, from her I hear criticism about any tiny thing, and not be aware that I had worked so hard, slogged out hours in the gym and climbing Lofty, changed the type and amount of food I ate or the time away from my family. There would be no compliment, no question of how much weight, nothing. And I don't know the reason for her bitterness. Is it because I have done something she can't? Does she see how her life was misspent when it came to looking after herself? Does she lack the ability to be proud of who I am?

I honestly don't care. What she thinks doesn't matter. It's what I think that matters.

A word on clothes....

I've come to the realisation that this "weight loss" saga is getting expensive! No, not the food, and not the exercise, but the clothes I'm buying!! I've lost 2 dress sizes, so the majority of my wardrobe is too big....and I mean falling off too big!!

I've decided to stick to 2nd hand shops until all the weight has gone, since there is no point spending bucket loads of $$$ on new clothes and then outgrow them in a few months.

Today I had some prime shopping time. A few lovely child free hours with nowhere in particular to go, so I hit the shops. I tried on a few things and ended up with 4 tops, 2 skirts and a pair of shorts. All for the grand total of $60!!

Being smaller certainly broadens the range of clothes I can buy!!! Now maybe m clothes wardrobe will rival my shoe wardrobe - but of course, it means I have more outfits I need to co-ordinate with shoes which means more shoe shopping! Oh bugger - NOT!!!   :)

Monday, 2 January 2012

Well, with the Christmas season officially over and the tree packed up for another year, its time to look ahead to 2012. I'm still riding the crest of motivation that I had in Sydney, so I figure if I set goals and aims for the year now, I'll be more inclined to stick to them!

The first goal I'm setting myself is to do the Lofty climb twice a week. Every Thursday morning at 6am, and once on the weekend, depending on Bernie's roster. It's a great calorie burner, and a gorgeous sight that early in the morning. If nothing else, I'll be getting out in nature and breathing in crisp clean air.

I plan on making 2012 the year for self improvement, both inside and out. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to achieve this, but might look at doing some classes or taking up a hobby to broaden my mind. I'm not an arty/crafty type but used to enjoy cross stitch, so I might possibly dust off the wool and finish one I started about 5 years ago! I might even finish knitting Bernie's jumper that I began 4 years ago!! I'm a great one for starting things but not so good with seeing them through to the end!!

I'm also hoping to have a diary chock full of social occasions to attend. Now that Tara is older, we can start looking at getting out a bit more. And with the wider range of friends I've made in 2011, I'm sure we can find some things to keep us a bit more busy!! I don't want another year of sitting home on a Saturday complaining of being bored!! I've done that for too many years!!

This year I turn 38 and plan on making it one of the best yet. I've had more bad years than good years, so I'm taking my new found empowerment to make sure I make things happen!!

I might look for a higher paying job, with the aim to save for an overseas trip next year. Hell, I've never even left the country!! I'd like to discover the world with my children, and they are at a great age to learn about other cultures and try new experiences.

So as the second day of 2012 grows slowly to a close (and hopefully cools down some!!), I think I'm in the right place to go full steam ahead!!

Happy New Year (and happy New Me!!)

2011 - the year that was.

I know it's not quite finished yet, but since 2011 has been such a massive year, I need to put everything down just to see how awesome it really was.

I've done so much in the past 12 months that I've been proud of, I've met some wonderful people and cemented dozens of friendships, and kicked personal goals that I never thought I'd acheive.

So, much like a current affairs "look back" over the past year, I thought I would start my blog with a look back at some of the things that have contributed to a milestone year.

In February, fittingly on my late fathers birthday, I finally got my diploma. I am now able to put Dip FS(FM) after my name (diploma of Financial Services Financial Markets).  February also saw a quick girls weekend away to Melbourne with one of my friends from work. A great weekend catching up with an old work mate now living in Victoria.

In May, I became a fitness instructor, by doing a Zumba course. This is the last thing I expected to be able to refer to myself as, coming from 130kg only 3 years ago!

In September I began the Michelle Bridges 12 week body transformation. Within the first week I did the City to Bay 12kms in just over 2 hours. It was a huge acheivement, and one I am very proud of. It gives me a time to beat next year!

October and November saw me lose over 10kg by eating healthy and exercising smart. I took the plunge and opened myself up to jogging. It's a work in progress, but as they say, every great journey begins with one step!

A tick off the bucket list was being in the Adelaide Christmas Pageant. Through one of the girls doing the 12WBT, I walked with the Rupunzel float, waving and smiling and dancing the whole way. It was such a great experience seeing the kids faces, and was especially great to pick my own kids out in the crowd. When Tara realised it was me, I thought she was going to wave her arm right off!! When she saw me afterwards, her first words were "Mummy, you dressed up!!"

In November I also participated in the Cancer Councils Relay for Life, raising valuable funds to aid cancer sufferers and their support networks. I walked in honour of my dad, and felt him at my shoulder every step of the way.

This year I also met one of the most awesome people, and the good news is, he's family! (well, step family). My 18 year old step nephew from the US visitied our shores, and I took the time to get to know this intelligent, funny and engaging person. It culminated in him spending 5 days with us before he left for home, and it was a funny 5 days, spent mostly laughing. He convinved me that I really MUST travel to the US - one of the things on my bucket list!!

In December I went to Sydney to train with the other 12WBT girls and Michelle Bridges, before a finale party to celebrate our success. What a massive motivational time!  To be able to "keep up" with Michelle and her team of A1 trainers was amazing - once again, coming from 130kg and flat out walking to a bus stop, the transformation in mind and body over such a short period of time was a lesson learned! I CAN do it!!  The party was fantastic - seeing the top 20 transformations has inspired me to set goals next year to end 2012 fit, strong and healthy!! Or better yet, hit mid 2012 fit, strong & healthy!!!

My family have continued to support me, and I've watched my 2 beautiful daughters grow and learn about the world. Life is all about experinces, and taking Tara bowling, and ice-skating and on the minature trains are just 3 that have stood out. Amy has found her groove by learning drums and developing her singing voice.

So on to 2012. It marks the last year of Primary shcool for Amy, the last year before starting primary school for Tara, and  hopefully another year of personal success for me. Maybe next year will bring a new job/s, or a lotto win, or something fantastic, but come what may, I plan on meeting it head on with enthusiasm, determination and love.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
